Lena Sakalla

BFA Musical Theatre & BA Arts Admin

Lena is an actor, singer, and director from Gainesville, FL. Mentally stimulating, emotionally liberating, and intellectually satisfying, she has thoroughly adored her time at the University of West Florida and will miss it beyond words. During her four years, Lena was involved in eight UWF productions and two professional shows. Her absolute favorites were Silent SkyInto the Breeches, and The Little Mermaid. After working with Director Marci Duncan as her assistant in The Skin of Our Teeth, Lena’s passion for directing was reinvigorated. The past two summers she has directed children’s shows and taught voice and musical theatre classes. This semester Lena directed the Freshmen/Sophomore Showcase and plans to have a revised virtually live performance. Lena is excited to dabble in directing and playwrighting in the future as she is passionate about experimental/thought-provoking theatre and telling stories that give a voice to those that feel unheard. As a double major, Lena completed her summer Arts Administration internship at B Street Theatre in Sacramento, CA, and took spontaneous trips to see nature on her off days. Learning about how to run a company has Lena dreaming about starting her own company and acting studio later in life.

When Lena was not working onstage or backstage, she was pursuing her other passionate: student leadership. Involved in organizations around campus such as Argo Camp and Alpha Psi Omega, her all-time favorite was the USA Student Ambassador Program. There is no better and supportive organization #Ambassafam. Lena is most grateful for her family of friends and their countless memories downtown, adventuring, in nature, studying at club lib, hosting cooking parties and movie nights.

Lena is forever grateful for her professors and mentors at UWF and does not plan on saying goodbye to them anytime soon! Training in this craft with their guidance has given her freedom to explore the depths of herself. Her favorite acting lesson is rediscovering how to be truly human, so thank you, Theatre. Lena’s experiences at UWF has left her hungry for what the future has in store.
